We were hoping to see some outlandish laptop designs and newer technologies that would provide an importance-performance for the next generation of portable PCs. Now that the meeting is over, we can say with certainty that I was not disappointed.

But what were our favorite CES 2022 laptop innovations? Take a look at them through the core innovations laptop review below:

The most powerful mobile processors available to date

Intel Core i9-12900HK

Let’s start with the obvious. During CES 2022, Intel announced the launch of its 12th Generation Intel Core mobile chips, which offer up to a 40% performance boost over the previous generation.

Intel contends that its new Intel core i9-12900HK chip outperforms AMD and Apple competitors in terms of processing speed. The performance boost appears to be significant both for gaming and creative workloads, so it should appeal to a broad audience.

Both Intel and AMD also disclosed that their latest smartphone processors will support DDR5 RAM, raising the performance ceiling for laptops even higher in 2022.

The Dell XPS 13 Plus keyboard – core innovations laptop review

Dell revealed a new version of its famous XPS 13 with a new design at CES 2022, which was undoubtedly one of the greater surprises.

Personally, I am irritated when laptop manufacturers choose small keys with large gaps between them, so it was exciting to see Dell unveil a laptop (dubbed the XPS 13 Plus) with huge, chunky keys and no wasted space. I’ll have to wait until I can get my hands on the keyboard to see if it’s an improvement over previous models, but this is still an exciting release from Dell.

A row of capacitive touch buttons replaces the traditional function keys on the new keyboard. I’m not sure about this feature, especially after the failure of the Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro, but I’m glad to see Dell experimenting with different ideas rather than sticking with tried-and-true designs.

RDNA 2 integrated graphics

AMD series Ryzen 6000

Not only did Intel announce new laptop processors, but AMD also did so with its innovative Ryzen 6000 chips. Early indications suggest they may not be as strong as the forthcoming 12th Intel Core chips, but AMD has prioritized graphics power with the RDNA 2 iGPU.

AMD claims that Ryzen 6000 chipmakers will have twice the graphics power of the previous generation. This means that new laptop chips will be able to run the “vast majority of PC games in Full HD,” eliminating the need for a power-hungry discrete GPU to play games from your Steam library.

Although the RDNA 2 architecture is technically capable of ray tracing, we’re skeptical that the Ryzen 6000 processors will be capable enough to support this demanding feature. Even so, this is a very fascinating advancement for laptop computers, and I can’t wait to start playing my favorite PC games on light and portable devices.

Lenovo ThinkBook Plus’s second screen

Core innovations laptop review: I have a soft spot for unusually designed laptops, so I felt it necessary to also include the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus on this list. The new laptop has a touchscreen right beside the keyboard as if someone had fused a mobile phone into the machine’s side.

Lenovo claims that this second screen can be used for a variety of purposes, including taking notes, using a calculator, and even mirroring your smartphone’s display so you don’t forget an important notification.

It will be fascinating to see how helpful and versatile this second screen is in use, but it’s great to see that it hasn’t had a significant effect on the rest of the laptop layout, or even pushed up the price dramatically given that it’s only $1,399.

Asus’s new gaming tablet hybrid – core innovations laptop review

ASUS ROG Flow Z13

You can always count on Asus to bring out a new laptop with an out-of-the-box design. It unveiled the ROG Flow Z13 gaming tablet for CES 2022, which can be converted into a computer with its detachable keyboard. It’s principally a Surface Pro tailored specifically for gamers.

The gaming tablet has an Nvidia 3050 Ti GPU, but it can be grouped with the XG Mobile, which has the power of an Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU when plugged in. As a result, you can have the best of all worlds: an ultra-portable gaming system and a powerful gaming PC.

It lifts the bottom plate and allows the fans to breathe by using the arse of the lid as a lever. Surprisingly, you can still open the lid with one hand, though the decision to close it will undoubtedly require a second. This type of design provides a few additional benefits to this device. First, it is more comfortable to use, and second, the display is stunning – there are almost no bezels all around it. Despite this, ASUS managed to incorporate an infrared face recognition system all-around camera.

Of course, combining the ROG Flow Z13 and the XG Mobile will be very expensive, but elevated gaming PCs never are cheap. It may not be to everyone’s taste, but we have to applaud Asus for thinking out of the box rather than simply updating the specifications of its more traditional gaming laptops.

In conclusion

Here are the core innovations laptop review: The 5 most exciting laptop innovations of CES 2022. I hope that this review can help you to, make the right decision to buy your own laptop.
